When I play video games, I want to sit down and hold the controller still. I don't want to swing a remote control around like a retard trying to swat a fly with a dildo.

In Case You Were Wondering...

The thing I failed horribly at was building a computer from parts. Simply put, I could get it to power on, but not POST, and that nearly had me in tears of frustration. I was trying all sorts of things to try and get it to work, without avail. Then, as I was just about to give up, I saw this. It was hiding behind the heatsink the hole time. I plugged a 4-pin +12v power connector in and it POSTED without problem. Now I have the most awesome machine ever.
In other news, I've started my...9th...term at EVC. It started with Personal Growth and Adjustment. It feels like something you would need for a Liberal Arts major. Write essays about yourself. WOW. HOW FULLFILLING. Next was Trigonometry, with Zimmerman again. I've taken Trigo twice before, once failing because I no longer had the time or energy to be spending on classes I didn't need to graduate, and once dropping because the teacher was a fucking douchebag who ranks as one of the worst teachers I've ever had. After class, I asked the instructor about my grade from summer term, and he was perplexed as to why I got a 'D'. We went up to his office, and looked at the gradebook. Sure enough, there was my name, with the letter 'D', and the percentage '85.5'. I let out a sigh of releif, and he promised that he'd fix it. All is good in Daniel Land. Until I got to CIT 50, Intro Unix/Linux operating system.
I'm sure this will be a useful class, but the fact that I have to do all of the work in the lab is nothing but a pain in the ass. I should be able to do some of this at home. I dunno. It's too early to start making judgements on it. And I still have that fucking Java class to go to tomarrow.

In other news, I got mahself a new chair. The one I've been using is not a chair meant for deskwork, or even for sitting in for more than an hour or two. The damned thing was made in the 50s to be a decorative dining room chair. But this new one is sex. Black leather, high-backed executive chair. I could sleep in this thing.

Now, I can't make an update without mentioning Hurricane Katrina. There are so many things about it that infuriate me that I'm suprised I haven't gone totally psycho. First, we have the obvious "Bush doesn't care about black people" issuse. Now, I know that this man is a bigot, a cross-hugging fundie, a liar, and a substance abuser, but I never figured that he would be a racist. But Jesus fucking Christ. When a hurricane hits Florida, and kills half a dozen old white people Bush gets stuff done. When a hurricane turns New Orleans into a fucking lake and kills thousands of black people, Bush was probably throwing a temper tantrum about how Cindy Sheean ruined his vacation. And now, he has the gall to blame the levy breaks on Louisianna Democrats. Hint: look back in the records. Anybody who knew anything about New Orlean's geography knew that enourmous ammounts of money needed to be spent to keep this kind of thing from happening. Yes, previous Presidents didn't do much, but they didn't steal 80% of the budget for it either. The response time was sickening too. It took the better part of a week for any form of aid to get there, and what did get there was middly at best.
Aaron Broussard breaking down on national TV made a lump in my throat. There shouldn't be any reason for anybody to be begging for help in a situation like this. I don't care if the local governments need to give permission. If the state and local governments have a problem with federal aid in a case like this, they can hold a press conference and explain why. Then there's also the little boy who had to abandon his dog before he could get on a transport, which is the worst thing that whoever was in charge could have done. They could have let him wait for another transport with the dog, or, better yet, let him on. Again, if someone has a problem with seperating a boy from probably the only living thing that can give him some sort of comfort and security, they can hold a press conference and explain why.
As I look back on the past few months, I can't help but notice some things. 2005 is turning out to be one fucked up year. We started in the wake of a Tsunami that owned Indonesia, and another scare in March. Plane crashes in Canada, Afghanistan, Greece, and recently Inonesia, London getting bombed twice, and now New Orleans taken almost entirely off the map.
I'd be suprised if this year ends without a 7+ earthquake here in California.

OH! Jesus how could I forget. On Thursday I'm turning 21. I was planning on flying up to Portland to visit my sister so we could celebrate our birthday together, but because of my screwups, that fell apart. So, this thursday will be spent with rum+coke+IRC+AIM and maybe I'll even use google talk with a few people.

Failure

Ever do something that you know you would be good at, but it turns out that you fail at it? I've honestly never been more frustrated with anything in my entire life than I am right now

I just don't know what to do

I just checked my Summer grades, and while I did well in Political Science, my Precalc Grade was a D. I'm really not sure how that happened, as I had 55/60 before the final. That would mean that I got less than 15/40, and I refuse to believe that I did that poorly. I also checked my cumulative GPA, and it was significantly lower than I had expected. It wasn't below a 2 or anything, but it certainly won't get me into any decent campus. Simply put, I don't know what I'm going to do anymore.

I Just paid for classes for fall term, though. Trigonometry, Unix/Linux operating system, Java Programming, and some Psych class. Hopefully I'll do better this term than I have in the past.

I also just ordered new computer parts too. Everything but that monitor you see is going to be in the mail soon. It makes me quite happy. This K7 800Mhz T-bird has served me well, but it's time to put it out to pasture.

As Promised

Yea, I know it's never gonna happen. I also know that the whole Downing Street memo will blow over, or someone will take the fall for President Gasman, or Bush will say "September 11" and lying to Congress will suddenly become an OK thing to do. I cannot express into words how much I would love for the Democratic Party to gain a bunch of seats in the two houses and impeach+convict him, and send him to exile in France or something.

I am NOT coming down with a cold right before finals. I'm having trouble breathing, and I've been coughing so hard that I see spots afterwards. No good can possibly come from this.
BTW the Sunday Strip for Doonsebury struck a chord with me. I'll post it when it's actually on the intarweb.
